Eagle
Rank Requirement Changes
These requirements became effective on January 1, 2008.
The wording of requirement 2 was changed in Boy Scout Requirements
on January 1, 2005, but had appeared on the Application for Eagle Scout
for a number of years.
The wording of requirement 5 below has been adjusted based
on a note from the Director of Boy Scout Advancement.
Note that neither the 2005 nor the 2008 editions of Boy
Scout Requirements included these changes in the lists on the inside front
cover of the book.
To see the requirements with the changes highlighted, Click
here.
To see the additional wording for these requirements, which
appears on the Eagle Scout Rank Application (#58-728), but not in Boy
Scout Requirements (#33215), and which either clarifies or amplifies the
requirements from the book, Click

The National Youth Protection Committee recommended additions
to the Boy Scout rank requirements that were approved and will become
effective January 1, 2008. These changes will help us advance the importance
of Youth Protection training beyond the initial Boy Scout
joining requirements, and keep youth informed and actively engaged in
understanding the key elements of personal safety and protection.
TENDERFOOT RANK - Revised requirement #9: Explain the importance
of the buddy system as it relates to your personal safety on outings
and in your neighborhood. Describe what a bully is and how you should
respond to one.
SECOND CLASS RANK - Revised requirement #8b: Explain the three R's
of personal safety and protection.
FIRST CLASS RANK - Revised requirement #12: Describe the three things
you should avoid doing related to use of the Internet. Describe a
cyberbully and how you should respond to one.
These changes will be represented in the 2008 Boy Scout
Requirements book and the revised ninth printing of the 11th edition
of the Boy Scout Handbook.
All troops need to be in compliance with the above from
National.
Life
to Eagle Clinics
You are moving toward a very great thing in your life.
Becoming an Eagle Scout is one of the most rewarding, yet challenging
things that you can do. You can excel at sports or shine in the arts.
Hobbies that grab your attention at one age don t always remain interesting.
But working through the requirements to become an Eagle
Scout gives you invaluable experience in such a wide variety of fields
of study and most of them allow for a hands-on interaction, not just
a lesson from a book. And it will become an important part of your life
that will remain so forever.
To assist you in attaining the rank of Eagle the Cherokee
Pickens District Advancement Committee will hold a number of Life to
Eagle Clinics. These clinics will be held on March 27, 2008, and May
22, 2008. They will be at 7:30 pm at Canton
First United Methodist Church in conjunction with the regularly
scheduled Advancement Committee meeting.
The intent of these clinics is to give guidance to the
Scout, Scout leaders, and parents as they prepare to travel down the
path toward the attainment of the Eagle Scout rank. We want to give
you all the greatest help possible for your success.
Please do not hesitate to contact the Advancement Committee
Chairman, Sharon Coleman, 770-926-6728
if you have questions.
