Announcements
Merit
Badge Counselors
Each Boy
Scout unit was sent a list of counselors in their recharter
packet with a note to look things over and let me know who
should be renewed. After I sent those out, the council decided
to change the way counselors are renewed in order to fall
more in line with national policy. As a result, many of you
have received an email and/or a postcard asking you to renew.
That is the only way to renew your merit badge counselor registration.
The process for MBC registration is changing and is being
finalized. Once it is, I will share that with you. The method
of tracking merit badge counselor registration is also changing,
so updated MBC lists will not be available until late next
month.
Eagle
Scout Applications
Starting
January 1, the new Eagle Scout application must be used. When
applications are turned in to the program center before the
board of review, all that is now required is the Eagle application
and the contact page out of the project workbook. You no longer
need to submit the project workbook to the program center.
The program center staff will make every effort to verify
the application while you wait (this will be contingent on
lines and staff availability). The signed application will
be returned to you before you leave.
Eagle
Scout Service Projects
Starting
January 1, all Scouts must utilize the new Eagle Scout Service
Project Workbook unless the Scout has already received district
approval. Projects will no longer be reviewed at the district
advancement review nights. Instead, projects will be reviewed
via email. This will significantly help with turnaround time,
which allows Scouts to get started on their projects much
more quickly. Projects must be sent to eagleprojects@cpds.org
for review. The signature page should be scanned and attached
to the email as well. Please allow two weeks for project reviews.
Training
A
Life to Eagle seminar will take place concurrently with roundtable
on January 5. An all-day course in Boy Scout advancement will
be offered this spring. Please keep an eye out for more information.
Journey
to Excellence - Advancement
I have
updated Journey to Excellence numbers for each unit for the
advancement criteria. These percentages are through the end
of November. Final numbers will not be available until mid-January.
Please
let me know if you have any questions.

Youth
Protection Training Now Required For Merit Badge Counselors
Cherokee/Pickens
District,
As
you may have heard, per the National Council, youth protection training
is now mandatory for all registered adults in the BSA. This includes
Merit Badge counselors. All new Merit Badge counselors must submit a
copy of a current youth protection training certificate with the adult
application. Applications without the certificate will not be accepted.
Also, counselors without current youth protection training will be dropped
from the list of approved Merit Badge counselors at recharter time.
These changes are effective immediately.
Remember,
youth protection training expires every two years. Please take a few
minutes to complete youth protection training if you have not already
done so.

Congratulatory
Letters From Representative Tom Price
Representative
Thomas Price loves to write a congratulatory letter to all Eagle Scouts
as well as help you get US flags flown over the Capitol.
In
order to do this in a timely fashion you need to go through the local—Canton
Office NOT his Washington DC Office.
Following
the anthrax attacks, the Capitol Police began screening and irradiating
every piece of mail before it is delivered to Congressional offices.
The additional screening unfortunately results in delays in delivery
of letters and packages by weeks!
Please
send all requests for letters or flags to:
