Woodruff ordeals are around the corner. Are you planning to attend? Do you need a ride? A carpool will be arranged, but it's up to you to get in touch with Mrs. Turner.

Also, for any adults who plan to attend and help with the food service team, please pack your kilt for our Saturday evening attire.

Have questions? Call or email Diane Turner (678) 255-7574 (after 7pm) or danddoublet@earthlink.net

Chapter Trailer

Brothers,

The OA Chapter is in desperate need of an enclosed trailer to maintain and transport all of our OA 'stuff'. Currently we have items at one of about four (4) different locations and transporting this stuff to ceremony sites is to use a common phrase "quite an ordeal". I would propose that we purchase a trailer: 6 X 12 enclosed. We currently have an offer to purchase such a trailer for $1,500 (best price I have found thus far). As the Chapter does not currently have this in our budget, I am prepared to purchase the trailer for the Chapter, but would certainly accept contributions towards a 'trailer fund' to offset that cost. If by chance we raise surplus funds, and additional funds will go towards side/back decals with the OA Insignia and our Chapter name and then to additional items/supplies needed by the Chapter or an agreed upon Charity of choice.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and contribution.

Chapter News

2008 has been a very busy year so far for the Brothers of Achewon Woapalanne. We have been riding a high since the recognition of our chapter at the Lodge Winter Banquet as Chapter of the Year for 2007 and we have been more focused than ever to demonstrate why deserved that honor. We ended 2007 and began 2008 with Service Projects – Brotherhood of Cheerful Service, right! Our attendance at meetings and activities, while not where we want them to be – have definitely been going in the right direction. We will have pizza and ice cream at the first meeting following 50+ in attendance. We have come close – but not there yet.

We had scheduled three Crossover/Arrow of Light Ceremonies for the Scouts of Cherokee Pickens. During these ceremonies, we conducted over 75 Cub scouts over the bridge into the ranks of Boy Scouting. This was by far, the largest number we have serviced in this way. Our ceremonies teams have been very active with these ceremonies, as well as preparing for tap]out at our District Camporee, for competition at Pow Wow and Conclave and other ceremonies as needed. We have been working on new regalia and props for our teams – with many more yet to come. Very special ‘Thanks’ to Diane and Tony Turner for all they have done in support of the Chapter

We are also working on developing our own drum and dance teams. We hope to be able to support the Lodge Teams and then also enhance our own ceremonies and program. We have received support from many folks, but specials thanks goes to James ‘Littledeer’ Hancock and the Brothers (Christian and Bradley [and Brian/Advisor]) from the Kenesaw Chapter.

We had a great time at Pow Wow. Our very own Rajpal Sagoo was the event coordinator for the weekend. He put in a lot of work and it paid off with a fantastic event. The weather left a little to be desired (Friday night and Saturday), but hey, he can’t do everything. I know many others were critical in pulling that weekend together – Our thanks to all – It was Great!!!

We are planning for our Chapter/Crew service and camping trip at the Aquatics Base at Lake Allatoona. We will miss the Lodge work day for a prior scheduled crossover ceremony – so we will make that up with a workday of our own. Ranger Tom says he has PLENTY of additional work for us to do.

Then there is Unit/OA Elections, Camping promotions, more service projects, Ordeals, our trip to NC “Unto These Hills”, Webeloree (where we will again provide the Showman activity pin to the Webelos of CP), fun & fellowship and so much more. This is going to be another fantastic year.

Purpose of the Order

To recognize those campers (Scouts and Scouters) who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives, and by such recognition cause other campers to conduct themselves in such manner as to warrant recognition.

To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit.

To promote Scout camping, which reaches it's greatest effectiveness as a part of the unit's camping program, both year round and in the summer camp, as directed by the camping committee of the Council.

To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others.

Mission of the Chapter

The mission of the Chapter is to achieve the purpose of the Order of the Arrow as an integral part of the Boy Scouts of America in the District through positive youth leadership under guidance of selected capable adults.

Membership

Our Chapter has more than 145 members located in the Cherokee/Pickens District with approximately 24 BSA units.

Meetings

Chapter Meetings are the 1st Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm at Canton First United Methodist Church.

*Are You an Active Member? *

Are you an active member--
The kind that would be missed?
Or are you just contented
That your name is on the list?

Do you attend the meetings
And mingle with the flock?
Or do you stay at home
To criticize and knock?

Do you take an active part
To help the work along?
Or are you satisfied
To only just belong?

When the business session comes around,
Do you pretend to be sick?
And leave the work to just a few
Than talk about the " clique"?

Think this over, member,
You know right from wrong.
Are you an active member,
Or do you just belong?
